I'm ba-a-a-a-a-ack! New home, new town, new job - same old ornery man ranting at the world. And here's a new rant for you.
Conservative Christian values! There's an oximoron if I ever heard one. It makes as much sense as Military Intelligence. Anybody who uses the words Christian and Conservative in the same breath ought to have their head examined. The only place you'll find these two words in close proximity to each other any place else is in the dictionary. Christian values and Conservative values have about as much in common as oil and water. Oil and water are both liquids; beyond that, all similarities cease. And the only way you can put the two together is by shaking them a lot. Same can be said for Christian values and Conservative values.
Conservative values are all about exclusion and suspicion; Christian values - at least in the New Testament I read growing up - are all about inclusion and acceptance. Try as you might, you'll have a tough time forcing those two to mesh. You really have to tilt your head and squint to see how they can be construed as being the same. And yet . . . lots of people consider them the same.
