Okay, I've been silent long enough. It's time for me to weigh in on this whole government shut down thing. It's stupid. It's embarrassing. Every other country in the world is laughing at us. We look like a bunch of fools, and I'm fed up with it. My son asked me last week when it will all (all being the idiocy that is our government, not just the shutdown) end. My reply? Never.
The sad truth of the matter is that every single person in Washington, D. C., is there for themselves, not for the American people. What's more, every single elected official, and probably a good many of the appointed ones, were bought and paid for the minute the set foot on the campaign trail. And the only people they really owe allegiance to are the individuals and corporations that wrote the checks. They don't give a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys about any one of us at all. They aren't worried about anything. After all, most of them know that they'll get re-elected again no matter what they do or how they vote, and even if they don't get re-elected, they'll just become high-paid lobbyists or go on the lecture circuit or become paid pundits on TV news shows. If they don't make it there, they're still set for life. They draw half their salary until the day they die, and they get free medical and dental and around-the-clock Secret Service protection. I wish I had that kind of a retirement package. And all of this on top of the obscene wealth they get while in office - oh, nothing illegal, mind you, because they're exempt from most of the laws that apply to you and me, like insider trading which they are perfectly free to do...but don't you try it!
I know a lot of people will say, "But So-and-so is with the XYZ Party, and they're all honest!" Really? Ya think so? Well, in my humble opinion, anyone who thinks any politician is honest and out for the good of his or her constituents is living in a fool's paradise, and anyone who tries to tell you that is selling something. They're ALL crooked. They're all out for themselves. And, as a result, out entire government is corrupted by the massive money machine that keeps pumping billions of dollars a year into it to buy our politicians votes. Special news flash! If Mr. Smith goes to Washington today, he rode there on a lot of greenbacks. He's bought and paid for. And he's not gonna do anything to change the system in your favor as longs as he's getting piles of cash for voting "the right way." So go ahead and vote for the Tea Party candidate of the Libertarian candidate or the Democrat or Republican of your choice. It won't make a bit of difference in the long run. The foxes are guarding the hen house, and they aren't about to let the farmers take control of it again.
